Jamie Gangel is a 16 year veteran correspondent for NBC News, and has
spent the last 8 years as the National Correspondent for NBC News' "Today,"
covering a variety of issues, from popular culture to hard news. As the
National Correspondent for "Today," Gangel has become well known
for her long-format features and interviews, profiling everyone from US
Presidents to celebrities to ordinary people with extraordinary stories.
In the arts, Gangel has interviewed Mikail Baryshnikov, cellist Yo Yo
Ma, rock legend Eric Clapton, and opera star Cecilia Bartoli. She has
also profiled many photographers, including Alfred Eisenstadt, Annie Liebovitz,
Herb Ritts and Lois Greenfield. Gangel has interviewed film stars ranging
from Sean Connery to Jane Fonda to John Travolta.
Her features have included traveling to the Arctic Circle to observe
polar bears and swimming with sharks in the Carribean. In 1996, Gangel
profiled the major stars of the Olympics and in 1993, Gangel became the
first correspondent ever allowed to bring cameras into the CIA for a behind-the-scenes
tour of headquarters.
Gangel has also covered stories around the world for NBC. In 1987, she
covered the Iran/Iraq war as part of a Pentagon pool in the Persian Gulf.
During the mid-eighties, she spent a great deal of her time covering stories
in Africa and Central America, particularly Nicaragua.
Jamie Gangel was born and raised in New York City. Currently, she lives
with her husband, bestselling novelist Daniel Silva, and their two children.
